Religion and Popular Culture Volume

Since I have received several ‘May the 4th be with you’ greetings today it seems an opportune moment to mention the Routledge collection Understanding Religion and Popular Culture, edited by Terry R. Ryan and Dan W. Clayton (click here).  The editors have done a very fine job of providing a readable volume for both non-specialist and specialist audiences.  My own contribution reflects on myth-studies in the context of the Star Wars saga, in particular the ideological criticisms of Joseph Campbell’s ‘monomyth’, and takes the political “myth of redemptive violence” (Walter Wink) as my case study.
